We took the train to Norrköping (Interrail) and joined the self-guided kayak trip with Do the North. As an outdoor nerd, I was genuinely impressed: the gear was absolutely top – high functionality, in excellent condition, and clearly chosen by people who know what they're doing. Everything we needed was ready for us when we arrived.
The kayaks themselves were easy to handle – stable even in rougher patches of water, and spacious enough to pack some real food (Greek salad and Köttbullar taste even better on a rocky outcrop in the sun). Before setting off, we had a 1-hour briefing plus a guidebook, which gave us all the info we needed to navigate the archipelago confidently and choose safe, comfortable sleeping spots.
Once out on the water, we quickly tuned into a slower rhythm. Water in every direction, birds flying overhead – some curious enough to circle us. We even spotted a few seals. Out in the outer archipelago, we watched ospreys glide high above the sea – silent and majestic.
This wasn’t just a trip – it was a chance to reset, reconnect with nature, and feel deeply resourced by the simplicity and wildness of the place.
