Totally worth it.
This was me and my smoking hot wife on the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, her 1st time in San Francisco, only my 2nd leisure trip there.
The check in and return experience is relaxed, meat and potatoes, they could plus that up and make more money doing it, you should probably book before they figure that out.
Tips: We pre paid for a 3 hour tour and I think the folks in front of us pre paid for the 2 hour and were offered a 3rd hour for free; they appeared to have plenty of machines in inventory. Email we received said be there 15 minutes before your departure, we arrived promptly at 945, shop didn't open til closer to 10, coffee stand across the street is pleasant enough, I think if we'd arrived up to 15 minutes late everything would have been fine. 3 hours was perfect. Think 2 hour would be good company team outing, 4 hour a safe way to get a pack of visiting relatives out of your house.
You are guided to parts of the city that you wouldn't normally see, given options, yes you get to drive on that part of Lombard, Haight Ashbury, all the way through GG park, the Presidio, "the house on your left is the Patty Hearst house," it is as advertised except we inferred a group experience but that would only work then if you brought the whole group and played follow the leader. We were on our own. It was a bit scary. But moreso, it was bitchin.
Because the thing needs to give you audible driving directions and tell you how proud she is of you for being such a safe and considerate driver, you dont get as much narrative as you would on a bus tour, but when you pass the bus tours and walking tours, all the envy and curiosity is coming in your direction. Smoking hot wife was apprehensive about it and she may well have been given reason to remain so on the ride, who's to say, but has remarked often since about how much she enjoyed it, glad we did it that way, etc. Beach St location is steps from sea lions, Boudin, etc.
Would do again. In a minute.
