Dog sledding was something we as a family were looking forward to since we made our plan to be in Fairbanks. However I was kinda slow in booking our slot because it didn’t seem like a big deal to book so far in advance …well, when I tried to book the week before the days we wanted, most of the slots were filled out. Eventually we did find a time suitable to us but we could only secure 2 of us for the hour long and 30 mins sledding for the other 2.
We reached there way before they had stipulated. Its a bit of an icy/slushy drive after you take the turn from the Main Street but nothing too bad. They were very busy with sledding and snowmobiling tours constantly going on. The inside is warm and clean and the people at the reception are very friendly, patient and helpful. The restrooms they have inside are also very clean. We were told that they they were running late because the website apparently had overbooked people. We were okay to wait since we anyway had to wait an hour for the hour sled planned at 2:30, but after few minutes we were told that the 30 min sled planned at 2:30 would be delayed by 45 mins or so….still allowing us to leave before 4 pm.
Unfortunately that wasn’t true. We had to wait till our party of 2 came back from their one hour sled and the same musher took us for the 30 min sledding. Beyond the logistics issue of us having to wait an extra hour, the sledding tour itself is very fun. Matt Hall was our guide and he was wonderful - he patiently answered all our questions, let us pet his dogs, gave us a lot of backstory on himself and his dogs. The sledding tour was a great experience inspite of all the dog poop you have to smell :). Our 12 and 7 year old are still talking about the lovely dogs and the fun trip through snowy grounds on a sled. For the one hour sled, my daughter and husband got to be co-musher with Matt and they mentioned that experience as being very different vs sitting on the sled. Very thrilling experience for them!
Worthy visit.
