Bukhara is such a great city that it is easy to just stay near the old town and not venture out at all. If you are going to be in town for a while, like I was, it is a nice break to go outside the city and some of the places locals like to visit.
Mrs. Shakhnoza was a delightful guide. Her English was very good and I enjoyed hearing about her family, her take on life in Uzbekistan and she was very pleasant company to pass the day with. As was mentioned in another review, Uzbeck hospitality is well-known and everyone is brimming with recommendations for restaurants, hammans and tips on shopping.
I've was in Uzbekistan for almost a month and did two tours with Mirfayz, as well as arranging my train station transfers. His company is very well organized, everyone arrived early, and the guides and drivers were very professional. I can compare this to other tours, and drivers and transfers, where I was overcharged, the tour guide did not speak any English, and somebody's 20 year olde brother-in-law arrived to pick me up at the border. Mirfayz exceeded my expectations and not only that, but did things like send me a list of restaurants I might like when I arrived in Bukhara (I tried 3 of them, all very good). If I had it to do again, I would have used him to arrange all of my transfers, train tickets, etc. rather than just in Bukhara.
The driver was also excellent, driving can be, shall we say a competitive sport in Uzbekistan, and our driver was quick but drove very well and again was very friendly and professional. Good job all the way around! If you come to this lovely country, Mirfayz should be your first call. Thanks to everyone!
