Victoria Halve-overdekte walvis-kijk tour

I took my family whale-watching for the first time with Eagle Wings and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The check-in process at Fisherman's Wharf was very fast, followed by some tour info and COVID related protocols. We got introduced to the crew and boarded the boat. During the tour, we saw orcas, sea lions, and sea otters. The crew was always providing explanations and fun facts about the marine life around Vancouver Island. I was very happy to see that they had high standard COVID protocols in place and plenty of room for social distancing on the boat. I will definitely take my family whale watching with them again. Was an easy walk from our hotel. Was a cloudy slightly rainy day but the ocean was calm. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly - willing answer questions. Based on a tip from their sources we set out towards Sooke. It was a great tip because we met up with 2 family groups consisting of a total of 12 orcas. Incredibly beautiful creatures that we watched for close to 2 hours. We then left them and followed a tip for a humpback whale - whom we also got to see. Staff we having such a great time that they lost track of the time so we go back a little late - but no one complained about that.

We were on a cruise that stopped at Victoria BC and not having booked on any of the official cruise excursions we were just walking past the Eagle Wing shop and it caught our eye. We did not set out that morning with any particular intention of going on a whale-watching tour but after speaking to the representative we decided to go on the 2.30pm sailing that afternoon. She said that the boat would stay out longer than the other tours and cover a wider area. To cut a long story short the tour was great. We saw a number of humpbacks and orcas (killer whales) and the three guides onboard were incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of the animals we were trying to spot. It was also clear that they had a great affection for and affinity with those animals. The boat did indeed stay out longer than the others that were in the vicinity and we also were taken out to a small island with a light house which was the base for quite a few Steller's sea lions. Although we missed the actual event, we understood that others on the boat observed a pair of orcas that caught and devoured a porpoise. This is nature "red in tooth and claw" and not for the faint-hearted. It is easy to get cold on this sort of trip and the crew provided warm clothing, gloves and hats for the clients. There is also a charging point for your mobile phone as it is easy to run down your battery while taking lots of videos and photos. Refreshments are also available onboard. It's a great way to spend 4 hours or so and we would certainly go out again with Eagle Wing Tours if we return to Victoria.
