Our visit to Heraklion Crete, was the last stop of an 2 week journey through Greece; last but certainly not least.
It happened to be an unseasonably rainy day when we arrived in Heraklion. Rather than canceling our tour, our guide Kostos, did a great job of adapting to the situation and adjusting the tours so we could see as much as possible, and stay as comfortable as possible. We did go to Mount Ida, and had a great traditional Greek lunch. We also went to the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion ( a must see)..We drove up to the small village of Krasi, shopped for souvenirs, and had coffee with the locals, and saw the monument plane tree, estimated at 2400 years old! One of the highlights of the day, for me at least was when Kostos introduced me to the, “Cup of Pythagoras”. Overall we had an amazing day balanced between learning more about the ancient Minoan Civilization, driving through the mountains, olive oil tasting, just getting off the beaten path , and how to enjoy a rainy day in a modern Heraklion cafe…
