What a great way to explore Kotor Bay! I can’t even begin to describe the views and local bent to the experience. Don’t miss it!
Before getting too far: I want to set expectations in advance on bike quality- I’ve never done a tourist bike tour that didn’t have a couple lemon bikes in the mix- this tour is no different. The great part is that they pull a ton of bikes out and you can find one that fits/feels good- take advantage of this part.
Now that the only negative portion has been shared… on to the outstanding!!!
Bike ride is beautiful! It’s relatively flat and on a road with cars, pedestrians, etc so recommend that you only take confident bikers. Total distance is around 3 miles to the hike starting point, took us roughly 45 minutes. The scenery cannot be beat and the experience is magical.
Hike is pretty vertical, 0.6miles to the only stop with delicious and cold pomegranate juice and some Montenegrin snacks- prosciutto, cheese, olives and fresh bread provided by a local villager when he’s available. We lucked out and had the full experience!
There’s an optional extra leg of hiking after the rest and refreshments up to an ancient (but still used) church - don’t skip this part! The church is incredible and views of the bay are majestic!
Let me brag a bit on our guide Luka- he was fantastic, accommodating and super knowledgeable. His mom’s side of the family is local and he loved sharing tidbits of history and knowledge. He helped us work out a big bike swap when one of our teenage kids hadn’t properly assessed their bike and became uncomfortable not long into the ride. Luka is chatty and made the entire experience enjoyable!
