Wizard Walk of York - WINNAAR Beste Tour & Best of York Award 2024

The tour was well honed, appropriate for all of us, from 6 to 60 plus and superbly presented (and we have done a few)...truly worth going if you have not done anything like this.

We booked this tour as a treat for our 8 year old son as he’s a big Harry Potter fan and it was brilliant! Full of jokes and magic tricks as well as being an interesting walk up The Shambles and past York Minster. The wizard was funny, friendly and a fab tour guide, it was great value for money and we’d definitely recommend it.

We had an absolutely fabulous time! Lots of laughter & wonder for all. Our girls are 5 & 9, and they both really enjoyed the experience. It was brilliant to see their little faces full of magical delight! I was a little apprehensive about going on the ‘walk’ as I’m mobility impaired. I decided to use my mobility scooter to ensure I’d manage & I’m really glad I did. The tour itself took a little over an hour & there was quite a bit of walking involved. The natural difficulties with the beautiful historic city of York therefore needed to be considered! I messaged the wizard himself to ask about accessibility & he kindly gave me a few pointers in advance & on the tour. He even made an adjustment to the usual route due to some road works which would have been challenging for me to pass. He was obviously keeping track of the group & bearing me in mind. His kindness & sensitivity were hugely appreciated! He made sure my husband or myself were advised of the upcoming turns on the route without making a big deal out of it or affecting the experience. Something I think you’d only get from a true professional. Most of the tour is scooter/wheelchair friendly. There are cobbles in some areas which will give you a bumpy ride & a few narrow passages which will require a bit of finesse to navigate! Other than one area which didn’t have a dropped curb in sight, meaning I had to take a very bumpy slightly long diversion! The rest of the tour I mostly just blended in with the group. The Wizard always waited until I was with the group if I’d fallen slightly behind before starting the next part of the experience. We were lucky to be in a smaller group, which I’d recommend for scooter users & I’m sure the wizard would be happy to assist in booking those slots! If you’re feeling apprehensive about doing a ‘walking tour’ in a wheelchair/scooter I’d really recommend this. Being outside really reduced that feeling of being too close to everyone’s bags/elbows. I’ve lived in & around York for 17 years & still today I appreciated the beautiful city in a new way. I can’t recommend the experience strongly enough. It was really special to be able to do it as a family.
