Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this Evan Evans tour. From the outset, the experience was marred by the unprofessional conduct of the tour guide. When I politely inquired why the itinerary was proceeding in reverse—contrary to what was advertised—I received a sarcastic response suggesting we could “happily queue for 40 minutes” instead. The tone was unnecessarily surly and dismissive, despite my respectful question.
To make matters worse, at 8:53am (before the official start time of 9:00am), the guide abruptly reprimanded the group for chatting—without any prior indication that the tour commentary had begun. This set a tense tone for the rest of the day. His demeanor remained condescending throughout, and I couldn't help but notice a stark difference in how he interacted warmly with white American guests versus others, myself included. It felt exclusionary and at times, borderline discriminatory.
The structure of the tour itself was also disappointing. We wasted valuable time at the first two stops—Brampton and the Cotswolds—while the main highlight, Blenheim Palace, was rushed. We had barely an hour there, which was wholly insufficient to enjoy the palace and gardens. The sequence should have remained as advertised, giving priority to the landmark most worth exploring.
Upon returning to London, we were offered optional drop-off stops. When I requested a stop near Gloucester Road—an area I know well from having lived and studied in the UK—the guide once again responded with unnecessary condescension, implying it was an unsafe request. His tone was belittling and offensive, especially given my familiarity with London.
The only positive aspect was our coach driver, Gary, who was a true professional—courteous, helpful, and thoughtful. He even adjusted the return route to give us more scenic views on the way back. Gary deserves recognition for his effort and kindness.
Sadly, the guide’s attitude and the poor execution of the itinerary overshadowed what could have been a pleasant day trip. I suggest looking at alternative operators if you want to visit Blenheim and the Cotswolds in a more enjoyable and respectful environment.
