We were on a short week of family vacation—with a teenager and a 9yo—to the Netherlands, and knew that Giethorn was a must-see. We had originally planned to make a day trip from Amsterdam via early morning train+bus ride, but ended up finding this tour service, and with guide in Chinese, too! (Turns out there are more than one such companies, but that’s a different story.)
This tour service saved us all the transportation hassle, and additionally took us to the Zaanse Schans before Giethorn, which turned out to hit two beautiful spots in single 10-hour day.
Pros:
• Pickup and drop off right at your hotel
• Trip to destination right to the sightsee spot all without a hitch and stress, and plenty of water along the way
• Very knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide Surui explained things along the way, not just during the sightsee tours
• Tour of windmill village with plenty of photo opp
• Tour of a Henry Willig cheese making shop
• Demo at a Dutch wooden shoes workshop
• Boating through Giethorn canals and lake, piloted by our fun tour guide!
• Free time to eat lunch in Giethorn
• Lackadaisical afternoon stroll through Giethorn town very lovely
Cons:
• No children price on ticket
• Entry into a windmill museum would be on one’s own dime
• Plenty of shopping as part of tour, but all good stuff
• Canal felt less than an hour, and total time in Giethorn not quite 4 hours
The tour group is small, so we had all the attention, and Surui let my kids drive the boat part of the tour too. We all very much enjoyed the trip!
