I’m giving 5* largely for the amazing Mosque-Cathedral…….breathtaking is a much over used word these days, but not here! It is totally accurate. We had heard of this place of course, and knew vaguely of the Moors in Spain, but had no idea of the scale.
This building could hold 40,000 men at prayer (women and children prayed in the outer courtyard, so who knows how many in total!
The architecture is fabulous.
Then, as if that wasn’t enough, right in the middle is huge high-baroque white Christian cathedral. This is a must see!
As for the alcazar, I’d give that a miss….the gardens are beautiful in parts but it’s mostly reproduction and large parts are building sites. If you’ve been to Granada or Malaga you’ll have seen much better.
The Jewish Quarter is great. Really lovely with interesting history and great atmosphere, shops and restaurants/ tapas bars. We’re going back today to just wander around it.
Tour guides were good but the whole thing was a very busy production line. Efficient but busy.
