I did the 7 hour jeep tour and the camp in the desert option.
This experience was one of the best in jordan. The wadi rum desert was breath taking. I was concerned at first about the weather Becuase it was supposed to rain but the guides had a plan for both rain and sun - very well prepared and organized. I showed up and Rakn immediately made me feel at home from the moment he picked me up. I am a female traveling alone and felt very very safe. I was escorted to the meet up sight where I was offered tea. I sat and had some conversation while waiting for the others. We then took the jeeps into the desert where we began the tour. For the curious - u do not need to bring your bags with you if you have a car, just bring a change of under clothes and a shirt and your toiletries in a smaller bag, there are toilets and showers at the camp sight. No need to bring it all. The parking is safe to leave your bags. If u do not have a car there is space to bring your bags in the jeep. The sights are lovely the the peace you feel in the wide open space of the desert is like a medicine for the mind and soul.
It was scheduled to rain in The evening so I did not camp In the cave under the stars but had an equally wonderful experience at the camp sight.
After the day tour we went back to the camp where we were cook a DELICIOUS traditional Bedouin meal from the under ground oven- they showed us how it was done and then we all ate together. After that they made a fire that we all sat around under the stars and had tea. The special treat was when they brought out the instruments drums and sang songs in Arabic.
The skies were lit up from lighting in the far distance and it was the most spectacular natural show - the dark mountains, the glow of the fire and the powerful skies putting on a show along with the music. We all danced around the fire and were living life. We came as strangers from around the world and left as friends sharing a moment In time that was very unique.
The tent accommodations were very comfortable and dry when it did eventually rain at night. It was soothing and an experience all of its own.
Everything was warm and dry and the beds were raised off the ground. Absolutely no water got In so it really doesn’t matter if it rains during your trip- initially I was concerned about this but it actually made it a very unique back drop in the desert, and did not last long… it’s the desert after all
I will absolutely come back- I wanted to stay longer
I highly recommend this tour company- they did thought of everything to make yiur stay memorable and comfortable while still keeping it authentic and natural.
Thank you for making me feel so safe, comfortable and a welcome while still scratching my itch for adventure.
