My husband and I were looking for an authentic experience outside of the city of Bologna. We were picked up on Via Santo Stefano, as well as brought back, which was very convenient as we did not have a car. The cooking class is held about 20 minutes away in the personal home/farm of our hosts, a mother/daughter team. The mother is a certified chef. The surroundings were magnificent - their home was very welcoming and the view of the countryside lovely. They were all ready for us when we arrived with coffee, fruit, and soft drinks. They taught us how to make tagliatelli and tortelloni pasta from scratch, as well as a "summer Bolognese" sauce. We each then tried out our new skills at our individual stations. My husband and I were in the main kitchen and the other 4 people were in the dining room turned classroom. After several hours it was time to eat! Both pastas were served - tagliatelli with the summer Bolognese sauce and the tortelloni with a butter and sage sauce - paired with white and red wines. The lessons were well prepared - the mother spoke in Italian while the daughter translated to English. The kitchen was clean and safety measures were taken. They did a fantastic job teaching the lessons, guiding us through the steps, and letting us create the pasta. Note: there are 5 farm dogs free range on site. Yes, we did know about the dogs when we booked this event. The dogs were quite active and barked a lot at first but they soon calmed down and went about their own business. I am nervous around dogs but I acclimated quickly and the dogs left me alone. The dogs were not a problem at all. It was a wonderful evening of making pasta, getting to know new friends from across the globe, and experiencing an authentic local activity. We highly recommend this event.
