I have visited Warwick Castle many times over the past 25 years, hosted events there and attended the outdoor concerts, with almost 100% satisfaction rates. However, when hosting my two cousins aged in their early 20’s I suggested we include the dungeon experience and purchased tickets with an admission time. I had visited the dungeon here before and thought the youngsters might like the history of it all. Well it’s now turned into a grizzly, horrible charade all about the Black Death and other macabre historical episodes, all designed to disgust.
We were the only people on the tour and I began to understand whey they had tried to change us to a later tour. The actors get very close, shout at you and wear funny clothes and make up. the first 5 minutes were spent going down ancient corridors in complete darkness. Not exactly safe. The farce continued with people jumping out at you and frightening the life out of you. After a rather bizarre, farcical mock trial I was told to go through a door which had opened. I stated that I didn’t want to as I was afraid someone was going to jump out at me and I had enough shocks for one day! Not so, he says… yes indeed, someone jumped out from behind the door making a bizarre noise. I was so angry. I have asthma and the constant shocks set it off. I said I had to leave immediately and the staff were unsympathetic. My cousins continued on the tour on their own. They loved it! I hated it. I really question the safety of this tour especially when someone is obviously getting annoyed by the content of the tour to then lie to them about a forthcoming shock. Will I read soon that someone has a heart attack in there.
